In Postpartum Prevention, mothers will address postpartum issues in a safe, non-judgemental environment. This group is for any mother who has had a history of depression and/or anxiety (either prior to, during, or postpartum) and is currently pregnant again or planning to become pregnant in the future. The group will learn coping strategies that address previous birth trauma, fears of birth, realistic expectations, setting boundaries, and creating a birth plan that decreases stress. You will learn strategies to deal with stress and emotions, resolving interpersonal conflict, and how to manage depression and anxiety. The group will also focus on various issues surrounding postpartum adjustment; nurturing your marriage, being a calm mother, defining “normal”, the myth of the perfect mother, and learning to ask for help. The group consists of 1.5 hour weekly sessions for 8 weeks using CBT skills and interpersonal psychotherapy. Come and share your concerns, learn coping strategies, and gain hope for prevention.
